On Glue and Tape

In our Play/Create/Build: Materials on the Go classes we do not use glue or tape. This is because we want all of the materials we collect to be able to be used over and over again -- in Wendy’s words, “to have a good long life.” In addition, our work focuses more on the process of playing, creating and building and less on the product. When tape or glue is used, the focus is more on the structure that is created, and it’s less likely that the materials will be used over and over again. You could say that our focus on working without glue or tape is more of an invitation to see what happens when you and your children don’t use it, not a hard and fast rule.
