Building Up

In our virtual Play/Create/Build classes, children often use recycled and repurposed materials to “build up,” exploring concepts of balance, weight, and symmetry. They love to work with big items and stacking them…sometimes as high as they can possibly reach! We see them answer their own questions through this play:

• Which shapes and materials make a sturdy base?

• Which materials work best on the top?

• Can platforms make my structure sturdier? wider? more interesting?

• How can I balance something large on top of something small?

• And…what happens if it falls? Try again!
