Metal

For the next few posts we’re going to be focusing on a material that people often overlook: metal. Metal hits so many of our senses - the temperature, the texture, the weight, the sound, but adults are often hesitant to offer it to children. In the photographs below you will see examples of what children as young as three and as old as nine have created with different types of metal: cans, pipes, keys, bottle caps, hardware, twist ties, espresso pods, buttons, screw lids, oversized staples. With clear presentation and observing eyes from the adults in the room, children of all ages consistently surprise us when they are allowed to explore and manipulate metal.
